Innovative, local food production at BE‑U

Another goal for a sustainable and diverse food supply is the integration of local, innovative food production at the BE-U.

A central component of this strategy is the procurement of food tech companies, such as vertical farming operators, in an innovative and energy-saving building specifically designed for them.

Following a comprehensive feasibility study that analyzed the technical, economic and ecological aspects of efficient building construction for food tech companies, the results are now being evaluated. The building will be available to these operators for rent likely from 2029. The focus is on attracting food tech companies with pioneering concepts and technologies that increase the diversity and quality of food production. The food produced there will be sold or processed directly in local retail outlets and restaurants.

Direct link between food producers and consumers

BE-U offers a wide range of distribution channels, including gastronomy, retail and weekly markets. These enable a direct connection between local producers and consumers who appreciate high-quality food.

Through these measures, we promote future-oriented and sustainable food production at BE-U that takes environmental concerns into account and meets the needs of the community.
